Awards & Grants


ESCMID offers various grants and awards to support young and promising scientists as well as professionals residing in Low- or Lower-middle income countries to be able to attend the 33rd ECCMID congress. It is important to support both the future leaders of our fields as well as those who may otherwise not be able to attend to promote the spread of scientific knowledge. You can read below about the opportunities available for the upcoming ECCMID congress.

 

Please note that it is not possible for a single presenting author to be awarded with more than one of the below grants in a single year.

ESCMID offers 100 travel grants to young scientist members who have an accepted abstract for ECCMID 2023. The travel grant covers full reigstration to the congress and a travel allowance of EUR 500. The applicant must be the presenting author of an abstract submitted for the 33rd ECCMID and as well as an ESCMID Young Scientist member (35 years-of-age or younger, or until 40 years old with valid proof and approved membership starting on or before January 3, 2023 at 12:00 CET). Only the presenting author is eligible to receive the grant.

 

Applications for ECCMID travel grants are integrated into the abstract submission process and are open from October 17th until December 2nd 2022.

 

The names of successful applicants may be published on www.eccmid.org and other ESCMID publications.

 

TAE and ESCMID offer two travel grants to young scientists from LMICs who submit an abstract to the TAE Research Bites session for ECCMID 2023. The TAE Research Bite travel grant covers full registration to the congress and a travel allowance of EUR 500.

 

The applicant must be the presenting author of an abstract accepted for the ECCMID 2023 TAE Research Bites session, reside/work in a Low- or Lower-middle income country and as well as an ESCMID Young Scientist member (35 years-of-age or younger, or until 40 years old with valid proof and approved membershipstarting on or before January 3, 2023 at 12:00 CET). Only the presenting author is eligible to receive the grant and needs to upload the PDF proof of residence in LMIC (enrolments in the study, rent or electricity bill, etc). Abstracts are evaluated by TAE/SAS committee, and on this basis, up to two abstracts with the highest scores are selected.

 

Applications for ECCMID 2023 TAE Research Bite travel grants are integrated into the abstract submission process and are open from October 17th until November 16th 2022.

 

The names of successful applicants may be published on www.eccmid.org and other ESCMID publications.

 

The ISF/ESCMID Sepsis Award recognizes an outstanding sepsis abstract submitted to the ECCMID every year. Applicants for this award must be the presenting author for an accepted abstract in the field of sepsis submitted during the regular or late-breaker abstract submission periods.

 

The ISF (International Sepsis Forum) steering committee will review these sepsis-related abstracts and select a winner who will receive USD 500. The ISF/ESCMID Sepsis Award is presented during a symposium jointly arranged by the ISF and the ECCMID Programme Committee. The awardee must be present and give a short oral presentation on their research after the award ceremony. Their name and the title of the project will be published in the Final Programme of ECCMID, the ESCMID Yearbook and on the ESCMID website.

 

Applications for the ISF/ESCMID Sepsis Award are integrated into the abstract submission process and are open from October 17th until December 2nd 2022.

 

The ECCMID Outreach Grant is aimed at supporting and promoting ECCMID participation from persons residing in Low- and Lower-middle income countries. Grantees of the ECCMID Outreach Grant receive free registration as well as a stipend to be used to support their flight tickets and accommodation for attending the congress.

 

ECCMID Outreach Grantees must live/work in a Low- or Lower-middle income country as indicated by the World Bank classification for the 2023 fiscal year. Additionally, as a new eligibility criteria for this year, ECCMID Outreach Grant applicants must also submit an abstract in the regular abstract submission period (17 October - 30 November) to be eligible to receive the grant. It is not required that the abstract be accepted into the final ECCMID 2023 programme.

 

The application period for the 2023 ECCMID Outreach Grant is from 28 October until 30 November 2022.

 

Applicants will be informed in late January 2023.

 

The ESCMID Förderverein Grant is a new grant for ECCMID 2023 funded through the Forderverein. The Association primarily promotes and supports entities of private law (“Koerperschaften privaten Rechts”), who pursue the goal of fighting infectious diseases and related fields. This grant will be used to support attendees residing or working in CM/ID in Low- or Lower-middle income countries. Grantees will receive free registration to ECCMID as well as full funding for flights and accommodation for the congress days.

 

Applicants must be ESCMID members, active in the CM/ID field, reside in a Low-and Lower-middle income country. Applicants will also be asked to provide a supportting letter by their institution or professor/attending as well as a formal motivation letter. There is no need to have an abstract accepted or submitted to ECCMID to be eligible to receive the grant.

 

The applications will be reviewed after the deadline and selected grantees will be contacted a week later.

 

The ESCMID Study Group for Clinical Parasitology is happy to announce the possibility of applying for an attendance and travel grant for ECCMID 2023 in Copenhagen. The ESGCP will support five ESCMID Members with accepted abstracts in the field of parasitology with 1000 euros each. We will give preference to attendees from Low- and Lower-middle income countries and strive to keep a gender balance.

 

Applicants must fulfil the following criteria:

 

  • Be ESCMID Member
  • Be member of the ESGCP
  • Attend on-site and be the presenter of an accepted abstract for ECCMID 2023
